Three Easy Steps to Being Strategic, and Sticking to What You’ve Planned

Developing a strategic plan is imperative for any organization. What’s even more important is sticking to that plan, and holding your leadership team accountable.

So, how can you ensure you have tools in place to do this?

1.     Define the right initiatives: By having very well-defined key initiatives that will drive the business for the next year or for a shorter timeframe. These can be developed in 1:1 or group coaching sessions. Your key initiatives should not be a laundry list of 20 items – rather, they should be a small list of 4 or 5 of the most important actions to address in your organization to drive it forward.

2.     Assign people to manage the initiatives: One you’ve mapped out your key initiatives, you need to assign people to each one. The person that takes the responsibility for the given key initiative should be tasked with developing an action plan to which they will be held accountable. That person is responsible to report to the leadership team at monthly meetings as to where they are with the action plan.

3.     Be accountable: Remember - developing the strategic initiatives is tough – but, accountability on following through is tougher. It takes consistent time and effort to make change and move your business forward, and it’s important to have a team, or individual to hold you accountable to your initiatives. Connecting with a business coach is a great way to ensure you have a third party checking in and encouraging you when things slip.
